How Much Does It Actually Cost To Maintain An Electric Vehicle?
Since cars became humanity’s preferred mode of transportation, drivers around the world have been plagued by a perpetual annoyance: maintenance. Due to the engineering complexity of internal combustion engines, the heat they put off, and the number of fluids and in-motion parts that need to work in perfect harmony for a gasoline car to function properly, gasoline cars have always required consistent maintenance to continue running.
Whether it be oil changes, transmission replacements, or leaky hoses, every ICE car driver has, at one point or another, found themselves waiting weeks for their car to be serviced, disrupting their everyday lives, and hitting their wallets hard.
Electric vehicles offer a solution to these woes. While electric vehicles are similarly a marvel of mechanical engineering, they have significantly fewer moving parts than their gas-powered brethren. This means less wear and tear, less general maintenance, less time at the mechanics and, arguably most importantly, less money spent on service.
Recently, the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy said “the estimated scheduled maintenance cost for a light-duty battery-electric vehicle (BEV) totals 6.1 cents per mile, while a conventional internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV) totals 10.1 cents per mile.”

The average U.S. driver goes 13,476 miles in their personal vehicle annually. This translates to an average annual maintenance cost savings of around $540. For example, a Tesla Model 3 costs, on average, $3,587 to maintain over 10 years, an average cost savings of over 30% when compared to similar gas-powered cars. In addition to maintenance, EVs save money at the pump. With gas prices reaching historic highs, the average SUV can cost almost $20,000 in gas to drive 100,000 miles. For an EV like the INDI One, 100,000 miles of driving costs only about $5,700 in electricity.
Simply put, EVs are the more sustainable, better option for drivers – and the INDI One is no different. With a proprietary platform designed at our headquarters in Los Angeles, reliability and durability has been a top priority for us since the earliest days of development on the INDI One.
Some critics like to point out the high potential cost of battery replacement with EVs as they age. However, this should be of minimal concern to drivers looking to make the switch to electric. Like most modern EV manufacturers, the INDI One’s battery will come from the factory with an extended warranty on the battery for up to x years or z miles, ensuring the customer won’t be saddled with a heavy bill for any battery malfunctions in the short term.
In the long term, battery pricing is improving worldwide as the technology develops. The amount of electric vehicle supply chain availability and developments on efficiency grow every single day. These technological advancements, combined with the Biden administration’s recent announcement of $2.8 billion in federal grants being awarded to American EV battery cell manufacturers. These advancements together will drive down battery costs for manufacturers and consumers alike, both on initial production and eventual replacement.

One area in which the INDI One is unique is the VIC. The Vehicle Integrated Computer gives users access to more connectivity and processing power than ever before, and demands the best upkeep from both a hardware and software perspective. On the hardware side, the VIC is housed in a military-grade chassis that keeps out water and other debris, while protecting the computer components from shock, shake, and heat via a premium cooling system. When a driver wants their VIC upgraded, or if parts need to be replaced, the VIC can be easily accessed to be worked on.
Regarding the VIC’s software, all updates can be applied over-the-air, giving drivers more flexibility and freedom when it comes to enhancing their digital experience. Via integrated 5G technology, OTA updates will unlock new entertainment, enhanced assistive features, and growing security functionality for INDI One drivers and passengers alike.
Almost all ICE vehicle problems will soon be solved by Electric Vehicle production across the world by providing greater range, in-car experience, reduced maintenance, etc. One of the greatest advantages of going Electric will be greater reliability, at a better cost. The future is electric, reserve your INDI One today!
